We thought he might step up to the task of being the “man of the house” while Hero Hubs (known by the Bear as da-daaaaaaa, and that second ‘da’ needs to be growled), is away this week.
But, so far, he hasn’t taken any trash out. He hasn’t made me a latte, given me a kiss or helped with any dishes.

He has begged me to colour with him thirty times, said “Nooo!” to a gabillion suggestions, spilled my coffee on the couch and graced me with three poopy nappies during the first 18 hours HH was away.

And although I think he’s a very clever Bear and a wonderful little boy, I don’t think he’s ready to be the man of the house.

And I miss Hero Hubs.

If you like your news straightforward and direct, look no further. This photographic delivery is just for you!
Here’s the Bear, too focused on the Wonder Pets or a rugby match to help me out with announcing the news.

C’mon Bear, people are waiting!
The Bear is obviously not helping the straightforward news shoot straight! Bear Bear, help us out!

Well, in the meantime perhaps this will provide some clarity:
Does that clear things up?? Let’s see if the Bear can get it together for a big finish…
Almost there…
Finally, he’s got it! And we can see on his face how he feels about the news! …

Coming soon to a crib near (or perhaps not-so-near) you: Baby Collie #2!
In diapers, February 2011!
You heard it hear first! Unless you heard it somewhere else already. 🙂

Dear FIFA 2010 World Cup,
Don’t get me wrong. I’m really glad you’re here and all. You’re bringing a lot of much-needed attention to South Africa. You’re even bringing traffic to my blog. (Thanks, by the way.)
But see, your timing is off. I have this really important matter to attend to.
Um.

Well, it’s just some specific business I need to attend to and…

It requires a lot of my time and some consistency.

But you’ve showed up and I’m busy all over the place — doing really important things, but, ugh,

This other thing I need to take care of has kind of gotten kicked to the curb.

Could you come back in a week or two?
Thanks.

Dear Peanut Butter and Honey,
I would like to take a moment to thank you and your sister, PBJ, for saving the day on countless occasions. On many-a-day when dinner is still half an hour away, or I find myself staring aimlessly around my kitchen with no plan and no where with all to make one, you divebomb in faster than a speeding bullet with a white bread cape. Or sometimes wheat.

Even when it was just me, in college, tired from studying or walking the big old hill up to my dorm room, you were always there. Your protein and sugary-sweet goodness enabled me to press on.

And now when the grumble of the tummy of one little Bear threatens to disrupt the cosmos of our home, you swoop in to the rescue, with your wholesome goodness and your gentle presence.
Your soft and lovely texture is gentle enough for the sorest teething gums. And even though the tiny Bear may grow weary of the lady who won’t stop taking photos…

He never seems to grow weary of you.
So on behalf of Moms, Dads and Babysitters everywhere, I want to take a moment to say thanks. Peanut Butter and Honey, and Peanut Butter and Jelly, you gals make the world a sweeter place to be.

The day finally came
when his bones were long enough
and the weather cool enough
for him to wear
a sweater my sister gave him.
And I might get teary-eyed trying to explain
why watching him walk around in it
makes home feel a little nearer
and at the same time far away.
I think of days I long for

days my heart sings strong for
while wanting still to live here and now

thankful for today.

Or the Fashion Police. But see, what had happened was, the day before we left for our trip, the Bear saw his little sandals when I was packing his things and he wanted to wear them.

But they haven’t really broken in and they give him blisters on his toes, so I have to pair them with socks.
And I would normally cover up something as egregious as this with long trousers, but he had this funky rash on his legs and I wanted to keep an eye on it.
And…if your kid is happy and comfy in what he’s wearing, it doesn’t matter if the Fashion Police have a warrant out for your arrest…

Right?
