Psalm 119: 98-100

You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies;
For they are ever with me.
I have more understanding that all my teachers,
For Your testimonies are my meditation.
I understand more than the ancients,
Because I keep Your precepts.

I love those promises.

As I read Psalm 119 yesterday,  I was reminded of the simple and profoundly important Truth that there is wisdom that comes from the Word of God that you will not get anywhere else. Read all the fashion magazines you want. Study history, literature, astronomy, or archaeology. Watch Fox News and read the New York Times. You might figure a few things out, but wisdom may still be very far from you.

Because true wisdom comes from God.

Like David says in this Psalm, I want to be able to say (v. 97) “Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day.” And be telling the Truth. But sometimes life gets busy and I let a day go by without it being my meditation at all.

Come what may, the Truth remains: we’ve been given this Word. A lamp to our feet. A light to our path. A precious treasure. A healing place and a place of peace. It can keep us from sin, strengthen us in times of need, comfort us when we are suffering, grant us freedom, wisdom and understanding. But if we don’t read it, meditate on it, make good use of it…it is only words on a page. I keep finding that when I start to feel lost, this Word is where I’ll find myself again.

Do you find yourself in the Word these days?
