The thoughts and the thinking about covetousness continue, friends, although I haven’t been writing about it. If you saw Pam’s comment from my last post on the subject, perhaps you’ve been inspired to think about it, too! As I did some more thinking on the subject, I decided to act! And as you may have guessed, my actions had something to do with jeans, a t-shirt and glory!
However, my friend Allison holds a Thoughtful Thursday each week on her blog and she asked if I would guest post this week. I most certainly was happy to do so! So to discover the continuation of the thoughts on covetousness, and the explanation of jeans and a t-shirt glory, you’ll have to adventure over to the guest post on her site by clicking here.
Hope you enjoy! Please feel free to come back, comment, and let me know what you think!
Great post, Caroline! I think your thoughts speak for most of us–we all want to make sure we still “got it” post-babies and 20s. I think when we stop and realize who we’re trying to please we realize how stupid, selfish, and vain we really are.
Yea for being comfortable in our own skin! 🙂
Yeah. You said it. I am soooo dreading the big 3-0 in June. I don’t know why. It just makes me feel old. And dumpy. And mom-ish. As if 4 kids wouldn’t do that to you already… Anyway… I’ve never been uber-fashionable, but I am quite AWARE of what is and is not fashionable. And if I were to go somewhere that I felt warranted the time investment, I would certainly find the perfect outfit, break out the Bare Minerals, the eyelash curling mascara, the nice peacoat. You get the picture. Despite the fact I don’t usually look very cute, I do struggle with the desire internally. A couple of years ago I started reading a lot of stuff from the early Quakers (Friends)- especially on simplicity. Simplicity of dress was a big deal to me, so I started paring down my wardrobe, buying mix and match basics, etc. I started with my everyday clothes, and then I did the same to my church clothes. Now, what I wear to church is fairly predictable. I went with crunchy, long, gypsy skirts with brightly colored, slightly fitted tees. In the winter I wear a long sleeved shirt under the tee and go from Rainbows to tights and comfy flats or boots. I do have a couple outfits reserved for if I’m going somewhere special- a conference, a date, my class reunion, ect. At home, a couple days out of the week you can probably find me wearing scrubs. I bought a couple sets on sale, figuring that if I’m cleaning, cooking, and becoming a human napkin for baby goo, I may as well not be ruining something that cost a lot of money. Otherwise, I’m in jeans and a shirt from Target. Probably the same shirt I was wearing yesterday, just in a different color. That’s my two cents on the subject, but I’m totally with you. I second all those thoughts you have- even the one about still wanting to look hot for other guys (hey! you want them to envy your husband, right?). I just wish more people would realize the motivation behind how they dress. What a waste of money and time that could be spent on things of eternal value.
AB, it is really refreshing to hear so much of what you shared–I was starting to feel like I was the only one thinking fashion might often be a waste of money, especially as a mom. I love the scrubs idea! I have more thinking to do about this! In the meantime, my fashion choices are not really a concern b/c we don’t have the finances to spend on clothes anyway! What a blessing! 🙂
Amanda — thanks friend. My sisterhood throughout the world are experiencing the same sufferings and it is refreshing to be reminded!
I haven’t read your post yet — but you want to look hot for other guys! I had better read your post then!?!?!? 🙂
Isn’t it sad, Markus? You’re the best hubby there is! “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” You’re the only one for me, love.
Excuse me. Does somebody know how to choose an actual Forex Expert Avisor from fake and a true trading signals from fake? sorry for inconvinience
