I liked reading this. I've been thinking about it recently to, not just music lyrics but also phrases that people say that actually lead to an antiChrist worldview... like 'what doesn't kill you makes you stronger'. I think you put a list up once of silly things people think are in the Bible but just aren't.

In the meantime, I'm listening to more and more classical music. No lyrics. Order. Beauty. Calm. Praiseworthy and excellent. It's like having a mind-bath!!! Candles too! ;)

It's so funny you say that Amanda -- I forgot to mention in this post that this morning in the shower when I was trying to get my attitude on straight and trying to turn to the Lord, guess what two songs wouldn't stop swirling around in my head instead? I can remember the lyrics to raunchy music I listened to in 7th grade -- seriously, when I was 13 years old -- and I want that brain space back so I can give it to something better! haha

And Gordon -- as Mark and I chatted about this this morning, he brought up the exact same thing. Last night, before he chose Elf like a wonderful hubby, he was looking at a different movie and thinking "hmm...this might be a little bit bad...but no big deal..." and then decided, What am I saying? What do we want to spend our time dwelling on and thinking about? There's a lot to be said for having a tight-fitting filter over what you're gonna allow yourself to dwell on, listen to and watch. I totally agree.

Good points Caroline. I find a similar situation with movies - it seems to easy just to let something play through that isn't healthy or wholesome, rather than skipping that part on the DVD, or even stopping watching the film in question altogether. Sin does so easily entangle (Hebrews) without us even realising it. Thanks for that reminder!

We actually had a very heated discussion last week in my music appreciation class about this at MACU. It's very true, and for someone like me it can be very, very hard to stop listening to music that is musically great by lyrically trash. However, the more I listen to it the more convicted I become and as much as it hurts my feelings, I know not listening is the best thing to do.

I also know that once I have left this crap behind, occasionally the song will sneak up on me (in public) and it's very intoxicating. Sin is dangerous stuff, isn't it?
